This sequel to the adolescence course expands on the sexualization of attachment and how it impacts behaviour, emotion, and relationships. Insight regarding the role of attachment is fundamental to supporting healthy sexuality as well as addressing troubling attitudes and behaviour. Although typically placed in the context of adolescence, the dynamics of sexuality apply widely and are best understood earlier than later.
As is the case with all our courses, this course features lectures by Dr. Neufeld, carefully curated support for enriched study, study aides, the opportunity to ask questions of trained faculty or course facilitators, a year's access to the campus to enable study at one's own pace, and a certificate of attendance upon completion. For more information, consult the 'about our courses' page.
Today's adolescents live in a hypersexualized culture. Despite their greater exposure and education, current evidence suggests that many youth are in trouble sexually and that their sexual development is not unfolding as it should. In this course, we explore how sexuality is meant to develop, examining it through the lenses of attachment, maturation and vulnerability. We also look at what is happening today that is resulting in many adolescents losing their timidity, becoming active prematurely, and falling victim to sexual bullying. Safe sex is explored from an attachment-based developmental perspective and suggestions are provided for contributing to the healthy unfolding of sexuality in our youth.
This material is relevant to anyone who is involved or will be involved with teenagers: parents, grandparents, teachers, counsellors, youth workers, family workers, therapists, social workers, psychologists. This course can be used for professional development for teachers, continuing education for helping professionals, and staff training for youth programs. This course is also appropriate for parents of preteens to prepare them for the transition. This course is highly recommended for ALL who are involved in the sexual education of our youth, whether formally in school or more significantly at home.
The course is divided into four learning modules, each containing approximately one hour of instructional video by Dr. Neufeld.
