Hold On to Your Kids Chapter 21: In the Wake of the Pandemic

In 2024 another chapter was added to Hold On to Your Kids, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the book’s publication. The newly added chapter, Chapter 21 – In the Wake of the Pandemic: Peer Orientation and Mental Health, is on the timely topic of well-being and how it is deeply rooted in dynamics of attachment. Without the knowledge of how children are meant to be embedded in cascading care, today’s experts are jumping to the wrong conclusions and advocating policies and programs that are likely to fail, if not make matters worse.

If your book is also missing the two chapters in the 2013 edition – Part 6: A Postscript for the Digital Age (How to hold on to kids in the era of Internet, cell phones and video games), click HERE.

Dr. Neufeld’s June 5th Online Lecture on Shyness, Shame, and Social Anxiety

It is impossible to make sense of ourselves, never mind our children, without a clear understanding of these three important constructs. Teasing these dynamics apart, and reclaiming the right language to support them, has never been more important.

Reclaiming Our Students

Faced with this epidemic of emotional health crises and behavioral problems, teachers are asking themselves what went wrong. Why have we lost our students? More importantly: how can we get them back? Reclaiming Our Students: Why Children Are More Anxious, Aggressive, and Shut Down Than Ever – And What We Can Do About It, written by Hannah Beach and Tamara Strijack, is a thoughtful guide to restoring the student-teacher relationship and creating the conditions for change.
